TEAM WHITE 6, TEAM BABY 2
Former St. Cloud Tech standout Brandon Reinholz (NE Huskies, EJHL) scored twice and former Maple Grove star Ryan Coyne (Coulee Region, NAHL) stopped all 15 shots he faced as Team White defeated Team Baby 6-2 in the first game of the evening session of the 2012 Minnesota Junior A Scouting Combine at the National Sports Center in Blaine.
TEAM MAROON 3, TEAM KELLY 1
Newton Fuller (Minneapolis HS, Minneapolis) scored the only regulation goal for Team Maroon, which received superb goaltending from Anders Franke (Elk River HS, Elk River) and Colin Delia (Southern Cal Titans) in a 3-1 victory over Team Kelly during the Saturday evening session of the 2012 Minnesota Junior A Scouting Combine at the National Sports Center in Blaine.
TEAM BLACK 5, TEAM ORANGE 3
Andy Jordahl (Edina HS, Edina) scored twice in the first half as Team Black surged a three-goal lead and eased past Team Orange 5-3 during the Saturday evening session of the 2012 Minnesota Junior A Scouting Combine at the National Sports Center in Blaine.
Jordahl, a junior who scored 10 goals and added 22 assists in 30 games last season for the Hornets, scored 12 minutes, 50 seconds into the opening half then notched his second goal with 56 seconds remaining in the half.
Team Black also got a first-half goal from defenseman Derek Smith (Apple Valley HS, Apple Valley).
Connor Andrle (Breck HS, Golden Valley) had a goal and an assist and linemate Tanner Holmquist (Hopkins HS, Hopkins) notched two assists for Team Orange.
Holmquist’s seven points in three games leads Team Orange, and Andrle’s five points ranks second.
Team Black goaltender Andrew McDonough (East Ridge HS, Woodbury) stopped six of seven shots to earn the victory. Team Orange goaltender Eric Majerle (Park HS, Cottage Grove) stopped 18 of 19 shots to stay among the combine leaders with a .914 save percentage through three halves of play.
TEAM NAVY 4, TEAM RED 3
Zac Sikich (Granite City, NA3HL) and Andy Faust (Hill-Murray HS, Maplewood) scored ice level shootout goals after nifty dekes to break a regulation tie and vault Team Navy to a 4-3 victory over Team Red during the Saturday evening session of the 2012 Minnesota Junior A Scouting Combine at the National Sports Center in Blaine.
Eric Gooden (Hibbing HS, Hibbing) and Bradee Thompson (Chisago Lakes HS, Chisago Lakes) scored goals in regulation time for Team Navy.
Tony Paulsen (Maple Grove HS, Maple Grove) and Tyler Cayemberg (Odessa, NAHL) staked Team Red to an early 2-0 lead. Johno May (Mahtomedi HS, Mahtomedi) also scored for Team Red.
Team Navy goaltender Josh Erickson (Woodbury HS, Woodbury) stopped 12 of 13 shots in the second half and was flawless in the game-ending shootout. Team Navy starter Erik Johnson (Sauk Rapids HS, Sauk Rapids) stopped nine of 11 shots.
Team Red goaltender Chris Mallon (Burnsville HS, Burnsville) stopped 14 of 16 shots and was tagged with the loss. Kyle Koop (Maple Grove HS, Maple Grove) made eight saves on 10 shots for Team Red. Mallon was a junior and Koop a senior last season.
TEAM GOLD 4, TEAM GRAY 2
Zach Frazier (Grand Rapids HS, Grand Rapids) scored the winning goal with 3 minutes, 45 seconds remaining, one-timing a feed from Jeremy Lopez (Proctor HS, Proctor) as Team Gold beat Team Gray 4-2 during the Saturday evening session of the 2012 Minnesota Junior A Scouting Combine at the National Sports Center in Blaine.
The shorthanded goal was the first of the combine for Frazier.
Lopez also notched a regulation goal as he boosted his team-leading point total to five through three games. He also scored the lone goal of the game-ending shootout, giving Team Gold the two-goal margin of victory.
Will Merchant (Eagan HS, Eagan) and Mick Dhein (Richfield HS, Richfield) scored for Team Gray.
Dhein’s goal came on a power play as he found an opening in the Team Gold defense from the boards and skated in alone on goaltender Bodhi Engum (Alaska, NAHL), a former Burnsville High School standout.
Engum stopped seven of eight shots to earn the victory. Team Gold starter Tyler Carlson (Hibbing HS, Hibbing) stopped nine of 10 shots.
TEAM VEGAS GOLD 6, TEAM ROYAL 1
Colin Hernon (Bloomington Jefferson HS, Bloomington) scored twice and added an assist, and goaltenders Glen Bates (Little Caesers) and Tyler Nelson (Champlin Park HS, Champlin) combined to stop 23 of 24 shots – coming within 6 minutes, 40 seconds of a shutout – as Team Vegas Gold breezed past Team Royal 6-1 during the final game of the Saturday evening session of the 2012 Minnesota Junior A Scouting Combine at the National Sports Center in Blaine.
Hernon scored his second and third goals of the combine in the first half as Team Vegas Gold raced to a 5-0 lead.
Zach Doerring (Blake HS, Hopkins) scored midway through the second half to put Team Vegas Gold ahead 6-0.
Team Royal’s Jake Webber (Idaho, WSHL) spoiled the Team Vegas Gold shutout bid when he scored on an off-speed shot that dribbled beneath Nelson’s leg pad with 6:40 remaining.
Nelson stopped eight of nine shots while Bates stopped all 15 shots he faced.
Zack Thielen (Sioux Lookout, SIJHL) and Tanner Ahlborn (Benilde-St. Margaret’s HS, St. Louis Park) also scored first-half goals for Team Vegas Gold.
